Controversy of teaching Evolution
Developments in evolutionary theory confronted popular European religious notions. Change must have been conceivable for evolution to be possible, which it wasn’t. For individuals that believed in a grand creator, evolution represented a threat to long held notions about life.
In American education policy, a group of individuals called religious fundamentalists heavily influence science curriculum in US public schools. Christian fundamentalists insist on a strict adherence to Biblical principles in the functions of US society.
Though fundamentalists decry the teaching of evolution because it is a theory, they fail to acknowledge that evolution is a theory heavily reinforced by accumulated evidence.
